Artist's Statement

I have always been a passionate supporter of Mother Nature. I am challenged by the question, “As we humans speak of becoming more civilized, have we lost touch with our vital links to the animal and nature realms?” Clay is the medium through which I am able to fully explore my passion and to use my art to move people and capture their attention. I apply this Venn Diagram as the framework to explore all the possible relationships among the realms of humans, animals and nature. Today these interdependencies are out of balance, creating anxiety and ambivalence while placing our way of life at risk. Through my art, I strive to give the viewer a moment to pause, to challenge their own thinking about how intertwined we are with nature and animals – and to invite or incite conversation about the world around us and how we choose to impact it in our daily lives.

“Everybody needs beauty as well as bread, places to play in and pray in, where Nature may heal, cheer and give strength to body and soul.” J. Muir
